Meander Map: Hanoi 2023-2024

Taiwan & Vietnam
2023-2024

Meander Maps is an exploratory journey without a fixed destination, a collection of documents created by artists who traverse the winding paths of the Red River’s curving streams, forging their own unique routes.

Since the end of 2022, OCAC, in collaboration with the seasoned experimental art group Nhà Sàn Collective from Hanoi, and contemporary art spaces Á Space and ba-bau AIR, has been preparing the Meander Maps: Hanoi-Taiwan Exchange Project. After conducting field research in Vietnam throughout 2023, the residency project officially launch in March 2024.

The project centers on artists' residencies and field research as the core of the exchange initiative. It envisions artists wandering through the alluvial plains sculpted by the Red River's meanders in northern Vietnam, exploring various aspects of local culture, natural environments, and socio-economic conditions. The result is an archive collection shaped by individual paths of exploration.

"Meander Maps" intentionally embraces a feral characteristic, extending from the participating artists' creative contexts while inviting collaboration between Taiwan and Vietnam. The aim is to build a tightly woven network that transcends boundaries and conventional understanding, fostering possibilities for creation, research, and life. The project employs a method of multiple artists-in-residence across various art spaces, featuring initial resident artists Huang I-Chien & Liao Xuan-Zhen, Lin Anchi, Jiang Yuan-Xiang, and P.M.S.
